Chapter 1: The Departure to the Wilderness

Baizer was a scholar pursuing an undergraduate degree at Trinity College. His senior adviser and supervisor, speaking for the teachers and faculty, believed that traveling was the best way to widen one's horizon.

With a round trip ticket and a traveller's check safely packed in his suitcase, he decided to set off for southern Scotland and Sweden during a specific period of his seasonal break.

He packed his wardrobe essentials: a thick sweater, a warm vest, several pairs of thick trousers, a swimming costume for the water, a spare sock in case he lost one, comfortable sandals, and an absorbent towel.

For outdoor safety, he carried a safety helmet, a reliable torch, a tape measure for field records, a spiral notebook, and a tube of sun cream providing a total block against harmful ultraviolet rays.

He also brought his video cameras, a high-powered telescope, and a portable trackpad to seamlessly surf the internet on the go.

Leaving the campus, he took a shuttle bus from the taxi stand on University Drive, feeling the clear tension of the rush hour traffic.

Boarding a vintage steamship for his voyage, Baizer admired the beautiful scenery of the vast shore and the rhythm of the tide. The sturdy vessel provided a smooth ride despite the occasionally uneven waters.

During a brief transit stop, he explored a coastal rock pool where he observed a prickly sea urchin and a playful sea otter.

Later, looking out to the ocean, he spotted a leaping salmon, a lone tiger shark, a massive whale, a gliding swan near the bay, a tiny shrimp, and various types of shellfish.

Back in his standard suite, he took a warm bath using tap water from the ship's water pipe. However, he soon felt a slight stomachache and a sore throat, wondering if it was a symptom of a new virus or just a side effect of his sleeping pill.

He was scared of catching tropical yellow fever or the dreaded sleeping sickness. Fortunately, the ship's surgeon gave him a medicinal tablet, a helpful vaccine, and a pleasant sweetener mixed into a soothing syrup to coat his tongue and throat.

Arriving at a beautiful suburb, he walked past a modern terraced house where a glass sky dome and a complex roof scaffold were being built.

His hiking route took him across a green valley, a damp wetland, a barren wasteland, and finally a great waterfall. He saw neatly tilled land on a rolling slope, an old-fashioned watermill, a spinning windmill, alongside a modern solar panel powering a solar pump.

Feeling brave, he even tried swimming in waterfall pools using an inflatable swimming ring.

At a local wildlife reserve, he spotted a large spider, a buzzing wasp, a crawling worm, an exotic zebra, a creepy scarecrow guarding a field, herds of sheep and cattle, and surprisingly, a rare species of crocodiles.

He watched the farmers organize a sheep shearing event to expertly shear the sheep, while other workers were gathering timber, specifically cutting wood of hazel and willow.

When night fell, the vast universe stretched above him, and the Milky Way offered a truly stunning view.

Chapter 2: The Urban Research and Daily Life (城市研究与日常)

By vocation, Baizer was a veteran specialist with expertise in terrestrial heat, statistics, and historical symbolism.

During his city tour, he visited a famous technical institution, a modern space museum, and a highly-rated transport museum showcased at the World Expo.

He used specialised software, a complex spreadsheet, and a strict library stack system to build a theoretical framework, a solid theoretical background, and a useful theory of application for his final thesis.

His academic seminar included a detailed slide presentation, a clear slide show, and every useful visual aid. It covered the situational transformation and transition of sustainable terrestrial ecosystems, using a physical wind tunnel model.

In his spare time, he liked to actively socialise at the local tennis club or the skating rink. When staying in, he would watch a lively variety show, a competitive talent show, an emotional television drama, or an exciting thriller.

He also thoroughly enjoyed a steamy sauna session to ease his mental tension and soothe his strained spine.

His own daily menu was highly varied; he always advised his friends to vary one's diet. He always ate healthy vegetarian food, fresh soya bean milk, and hearty staple food.

Occasionally, he would treat himself to some good tuna, a large sausage, or a warm bowl of soup. For dinner, he loved stewed root vegetables, stir-fried meats, and stir-fried veggies, all brought together by a rich sauce, crunchy rock salt, a dash of vinegar, and an extra pinch of spice for a truly savoury taste.

Sometimes, he visited the university's self-cafeteria with an elected student representative to quickly grab a simple sandwich, a slice of cheese pizza, and a bottle of still water.

Chapter 3: The Incident and Resolution

One afternoon, a cunning shoplifter and his partner, a known thief, tried to steal Baizer's traveller's check and all his money—the stuff of purse—while he was browsing a busy stall near Rose Lane.

The suspicious stranger had a clear small scar on his chin and a jagged scar across his wrist.

Fortunately, the quick-thinking security officer managed to safely seize and trap the man, effectively avoiding what could have been a highly violent scenario.

In the chaos, Baizer clearly heard a terrified scream and a loud shout, followed by a quiet whisper and a sharp warning whistle.

It was later revealed that the thief was an ex-van driver who had recently been sacked from his job for a serious traffic violation. Cornered, he had tried to violently slam the security door and angrily strike Baizer, an honest taxpayer, but failed.

Months later, the regional Senate passed a strict statutory treaty to officially sanction and break up the criminal syndicate operating in the area. The massive turnover of corrupt staff in the local territory was seen as a clear victory.

Baizer drew tremendous inner strength from the scary experience. Before leaving, he bought a beautifully wrapped silver package as a thoughtful souvenir for his kind waitress friend back home.

He swore he would never throw away his cherished travel stamp, his emergency tape, his filled spiral notebook, or the quirky stuffed toy he won at a festival.

Realizing he needed true rest, he decided to temporarily stand down from his heavy work, taking a much-needed unpaid leave. He started his journey home, smartly avoiding the chaotic rush hour traffic, and firmly clicked his seat belt into place inside his large truck (which now had a heavy trailer attached).

He gave a soft sigh, gave a light shrug of his shoulder, and relaxed in the cabin by playing his trumpet and his violin to some beautiful tunes. It was a pleasantly straightforward, completely worthwhile end to his highly unlikely, yet constantly surprising tale.
